This Month we have two parts to the "Message from Bulls Eye". The first is a report from Doug Clayton about a recent outing shooting the new offerings from Thompson/Center. The second part covers a 13 week promotion in which you can show your support for your favorite college football team and win free prizes.

Way To Go AcuSport!
By Doug Clayton

What a day it was; spent with AcuSport personnel and a very knowledgeable team of factory folks from Thompson/Center Arms.

Thursday - June 18, 2009: We arrived at the shoot location near Loganville, GA to find that AcuSport and Thompson/Center Arms had everything prepared for a very interesting day. The range was set up in expectation of our learning about the new products from TC, to be followed with ample opportunity to try out the new rifles. A shady, covered line of shooting tables with rifles zeroed plenty of ammo, all types of targets, cold drinks, and a nice lunch - this was a well prepared dealer presentation.

In attendance were many Atlanta gun dealers, AcuSport, TC, and Smith & Wesson (they own TC), personnel. The TC people gave us a thorough technical review of the new products including:

  • The "Bone Collector" (a super accurate and easy to clean muzzleloader.)
  • The new TC "ICON" rifles (the 'Weather Shield' coating make this an all-season rifle.)
  • The "ICON Precision Hunter" (a coyote's worst nightmare - this is a very accurate rifle.)

In addition, we had the opportunity to try a number of other current TC firearms, and get our questions answered by the AcuSport and the Thompson/Center Arms technical staff. - - All in all a fun/learning experience so Bulls Eye Marksman would be prepared to respond to any questions you may have about using one of the firearms from TC on your next outing. - - See other models here and here.

Also, of special interest through the end of November, Thompson Center is offering a mail-in rebate of $150 on the purchase of any ICON rifle and up to $225 when you purchase any ICON rifle and a Nikon scope on the same receipt. See the offer at http://www.tcarms.com/offers/.

National Show Your College Colors
By Gary Tucker

National Show Your College Colors is an ongoing promotion by the College Clothing manufactures to push their goods. The National Show Your College Colors day started last year and was scheduled for each Friday during the college football season. This year's college football season starts September 3 and runs for 13 weeks. We thought it might be fun to celebrate college football by having our own Show your Colors each Friday commencing September 3 and also running for 13 weeks, but with a twist.

Wear your college colors to the gun range any Friday during the time frame and you will be given a $1.00 target free. You will also be given a ticket for a chance at winning a Bullseye Marksman Gun Club Tee shirt each week. (one winner per week) All tickets for all the weeks will then be put into a drawing for a Bullseye Marksman Shirt, either tan or black. All free, just come and shoot. Just our way of saying thanks.

Disassembly of the AR-15 for Cleaning
By Gary Tucker

To disassemble the rifle, first remove the magazine and make sure the rifle is unloaded. Then make sure again that it is unloaded!

With the bolt carrier all the way forward in the receiver, push the takedown pin from the left side as far as it will go so that the upper receiver will pivot away from the lower receiver. The pin is retained in the receiver so do not attempt to push it all the way out. Pushing the pivot pin from the left as far as it will go will separate the upper receiver from the lower receiver. This pin is also captive in the receiver and should not come all the way out.

To remove the bolt carrier from the receiver, pull the charging handle back about half way and then remove the carrier. Pull the charging handle just short of all the way back until it falls down and then slide it to the rear and out.

To remove the bolt from the bolt carrier, push the firing pin retaining pin out of the carrier. This pin should only be cleaned, being careful not to bend it. While this pin looks like a hardware store Cotter pin, it is made of hardened steel and should only be replaced with a pin made for an AR-15. The tension of the legs in the bolt carrier hole is important to keeping the pin in place. A loose pin could cause a malfunction of the rifle and damage to the receiver.

With the firing pin retaining pin out, the bolt in the locked position in the bolt carrier and the bolt lugs pointed up, the firing pin should drop out of the carrier. If it doesn’t drop out, you may have to shake the carrier a time or two.

With the firing pin out, rotate the cam pin approximately ¼ of a turn and pull it out of the bolt and bolt carrier. Once the cam pin is removed, the bolt will come out of the bolt carrier.

The extractor is removed from the bolt by pushing out the extractor pin. Leave the spring assembly and the spring insert in place on the extractor. Normally the ejector plunger does not need to be removed, but if necessary it can be by pushing out its retaining pin. Since it is under spring tension, be careful to capture the ejector as the pin is pushed out.

Finally, to remove the buffer and buffer spring, push the buffer in slightly and push down on the buffer retaining pin. Release the buffer and then remove it and the buffer spring from the tube.

Next month we will cover cleaning and reassembly.

Right Wing Lunatic Terrorist Mobster
By Art, the Hit Man, Haggett

The Hit Man is my mob name, since the liberals insist that I am part of the right wing lunatic terrorist mob.

We now know what we must do to beat back these communist politicals that call themselves Americans. We can not allow any of Obama's socialistic health care to get approved. If it becomes law, even a sliver, the impact will be irreversible. Even if the next election puts conservatives into power, the damage will be done. It must not only be stopped, it must be crushed.

Obama policies must be crushed. Write and call your elected officials. Tell them to vote against any usurping of our freedoms. Tell them to vote that way or face expulsion when their seat comes up for reelection. This is their first crack at limiting freedom. If they control the health system, they will control everything, including your ability to make Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness decisions.

You know if they win this round, our guns are next. Get off your butts and get going. America is awaiting your call.

The NRA reports the results of a new poll conducted by Zogby International and The O’Leary Report that shows that 83 per cent of Americans support right-to-carry laws. It also showed that right-to-carry crosses party lines with 86% of independent voters and 80 percent of voters who are Democrats supporting right-to-carry.
