The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department sponsors a volunteer disaster recovery program that could use your assistance. This is a very worthwhile effort that serves the entire community. Please review the following information provided by Chuck Stoudt and offer your support.

THE COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)
This Program is sponsored by The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
The CERT Program started just after September 11th, 2001 to provide communities with trained personnel who can respond immediately in their respective communities to any disaster.
We have been working for two years and were given a 20 by 8 foot trailer by the Sheriff’s Office for response equipment which we are now attempting to fill with generators, floodlights, ladders, crow bars, cots, tarps, chain saws and numerous other items that will be needed for any disaster.
It is our “DRU” Disaster Recovery Units of six Team members each that will report to a Sheriff’s Deputy at a given site during tornadoes or other disasters. All other CERT trained Team members will assist the people in their own community where trees are down, roads impassable and any fires that are small enough for them to contain. We have one hundred volunteers ready today and are shooting for five hundred in the next year and a half.
Our folks are required to complete the initial six weeks of training which includes the following:
- Disaster awareness
- Disaster Fire Safety
- Disaster Medical Operations
- Light Search and Rescue
- Disaster Psychology
- Terrorism
- Team Organization
- Medical Supplies
We also are trained in traffic direction and assisted the Cumming Police last year at the Cumming Fair and Parades.
If you can donate any of these items, please go to the Sheriff’s Office website at this LINK.

SureFire Flashlights
By Gary Tucker
We are now an authorized SureFire Dealer. Our SureFire rep paid a visit recently and brought samples of most of their products for us to “play” with. His visit and a recent trip to a friend’s house got me to thinking about the SureFire products I own and others that I need.
|
A few years ago, I needed a quality light that was lightweight and would provide what I called “clean” illumination. I wanted bright, white illumination without halos and shadows. I don’t remember exactly how I heard about SureFire, but all reports were positive and the model (G2Z) I was interested in seemed like it would fit the bill. I even liked the fact that it came with a lanyard. Boy was I relieved when I used it for the first time and it far exceeded my expectations. I had already received a raised eyebrow or two from some family members when I told them what I paid. Well in no time, those raised eyebrows dropped down just as soon as everyone saw how the light performed.
Since then, I have added a G2 and later bought an LED lamp assembly which boosted that handy little light from a 65 lumen output to an 80 lumen output with increased runtime. It now finds itself quite often on an AR-15 quad rail (a Surefire 73). I also have one of the SureFire holsters that allows me to carry the G2 either bezel up or bezel down.
A couple of years ago I received an E2L Outdoorsman as a gift. Its primary duty has been to reside on the bedside table for when things go bump in the night. One of the cool things about this light is that it has two output modes and will run up to 100 hours on a set of batteries on the low setting. This is a great feature if you only need a small amount of light or don’t want to draw attention to yourself.
Of course I buy the SureFire batteries by the case because they are much more affordable that way and from all reports (not scientific but nonetheless reliable), more durable than most if not all of the competition. SureFire batteries have built-in heat protection for added safety. I need to get one of those Spares Carriers, just in case.
And speaking of need, I was at a friend’s house the other day helping him do some home fix-up things when we needed a light. When I asked if he could go grab one, he said look on the shelf right in front of me and grab the SureFire. I then laughingly asked if he had a SureFire in every room and he said “…in most of them”. No such thing as raised eyebrows from him.
So now I need at least one more for the house and probably two to put in the cars. I’ve got my eye on one of the Scout lights that fit on a Picatinny rail and I really did enjoy playing with the M6 Guardian that the SureFire Rep had in his display case. You never know when you might need 500 lumens! Or, if you have a need to turn dark into daylight, there’s the new ARC-2 at a whopping 5000 (no misprint) lumens!!
So come by and see our selection of SureFire products. If we don’t have it we can get it for you. See you soon. |

Did You Know?
By Art Haggett
In past writings in this newsletter, I asked what are you going to do if or when the present administration and congress acts on limiting, restricting, or down right eliminating our freedoms. I have been gathering information that can be used to do something that has the propensity to accomplish your wishes.

If you have a passionate belief, say gun rights, identify a good professional group that supports your view and support that group with money. I support the NRA-ILA.
Read and get smart. Did you read the letter by Janet Contreras, the woman from Phoenix who was recently on the Glenn Beck program? Did you sign it? Did you forward it?
Do you write your elected officials? Do you know that Georgia Senator Johnny Isackson ran as a pro-gun supporter and then voted to confirm Eric Holder, a rabid anti-gunner, for U. S. Attorney General? Do you know that Tracy English, the Georgia Shooting Sports Association (GSSA) President asked Senator Isackson why he voted for Holder? Mr. English never received an answer. I wrote Isackson and asked the same question and have never received a reply. It is my opinion that Isackson is a liar and a cheat. He lied to all of us and cheated us by not adhering to his promises. He needs to be voted out.
There is a lot of information out there that is being filtered or not being presented by the liberal media. You have to search and research. When you find the truth, it is then up to you to broadcast and share that information to the best of your ability. Do it. And when you do, send us a copy via email at
bullseyeonline@bellsouth.net.
Let us know what web sites you frequent to fulfill your information needs. We will share them in a future issue.

The shooting world recently lost one of its major contributors. John “Jack” Weaver passed away in Carson City, NV on April 7, 2009. Among other things, he was a former California LA County Deputy Sheriff and a serious handgun competitor for many years. He is probably best known as the originator of the famous Weaver Stance. For more information about this shooting icon, go here.
